She completed her medical internship at Montefiore Medical Center and subsequently pursued her residency in Neurology at North Shore University Hospital- Zucker School of Medicine affiliated with Hofstra University, where she served as chief neurology resident. During her training she was awarded for her excellent teaching of medical students and her peers. In addition, during her training she was invited to teach neurosciences at the prestigious Tel Aviv University- Sackler School of Medicine in Israel. Dr. Shanker completed her fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology where she was trained extensively in neurophysiology, electronics, nerve conduction studies, electromyography, single fiber EMG, motor unit analysis and disorders of the neuromuscular junction. During her training she was also educated and trained in muscular dystrophies, genetics, and myopathies.
